CONGRATULATIONS to Umvoti Karate Academy on being elected the best organised academy in KZN and also for organising and hosting the successful KZN karate championships last weekend.

Umvoti Karate Academy aims to empower and develop the youth from local schools and the community.

It currently has 289 students and four schools.

This non-profit organisation is an impressive example of what can be achieved for the benefit of the youth.

There were 143 participants in the tournament in 12 teams from throughout the province with karatekas competing in age groups from five to 17.

Umvoti Karate Academy students held their own in competition with those from much larger clubs. Four golds, two silvers and five bronze medals were awarded to Umvoti students with the national and KZN champions retaining their number one positions.

Academy director Sensei Sbonelo Mkhize said without the generous support of sponsors the tournament would not have been a success.

He expressed thanks to Ukhozi FM, Min Cash, Link Seeds, Vee’s Auto Breakdowns, Pannar Seeds, Impala Turven, Blue Crest, Child Social Welfare Mr Maharaj, the Ferrier family and community members. The Umvoti Karate Academy also gained further positive public exposure throughout KZN in an interview on Ukhozi FM with Sensei Sbonelo.
