IN this day and age in South Africa surely the terms black and native used by the Umvoti Municipality on its website are totally unacceptable, unnecessary and inaccurate. According to this information there are only blacks and whites in Umvoti. What about the Indian community and the Coloured community? The Umvoti details read as follows:

”Umvoti Local Municipality is an administrative area in the Umzinyathi District of KwaZulu-Natal. The municipality is named after the Umvoti River, which runs from the west to the east towards the Indian Ocean.

Area: 2 516km²

White population: 2.2%

Black African population: 94.6%

Native English speakers: 5%

Native Zulu speakers: 90.9%

Mayor: Thamsanqa Clive Ngubane

Province: KwaZulu-Natal.
