Update on Craigieburn pipeline/pipedream

2018-01-24 06:00

In response to a request from the Greytown Gazette on the status of Craigieburn pipeline at the beginning of 2018, the following was received from Umzinyathi District Municipality which is Umvoti’s water service provider:

”Two of the three contractors appointed to construct the pipeline from Craigieburn to Greytown are back from the Christmas shutdown and are busy on the pipeline. These contractors are expected to complete the work by next month –February.

The third contractor,Icon, de-established from the site in November as the Ward 4 community , which demanded an access road, a dam and jojo tanks from the Mooi Mpofana municipality, ignored a Court interdict to stop them protesting.

Icon personnel are waiting for the matter to be resolved before returning to complete the pipeline.

The situation has now been escalated for action to the relevant Ministers for a political intervention.”

Update on Lake Merthley on Monday -47,77% full. Rainfall recorded by Murray Mason for December:124 mm and just 20 so far for January. Rainfall for the whole of 2017 was 926;2016 – 916 and the start of the drought, 2015 789 mm recorded.

And believe it or not – the many Internet weather forecasts for Greytown actually show rain and slightly cooler weather for the next week!
