Ward committee welcomes new ward councillor

ONE is very pleased to express words of gratitude to the people of Ward 7 for the remarkable stance they have taken in making change in our community. We don’t have much to say, but to [thank] them [the voters]. We also would like them to be part of us in every step we’re going to take towards ensuring that our people at Ward 7 are listened to and catered for.

The change we have got has brought great relief as we can now walk tall, with our chests up, as our ward is now represented by a person with whom we share the same feelings and experiences of having been suffocated by the powers that be.

I think what happened sends a clear message to any leader that when you play with people’s emotions and feelings, one day they will turn against you. Turn against you using their vote whilst wearing your T-shirts and you’ll be immensely astounded by the negative results you’ll get.

They will turn against you even when you’ve been going to their houses in the night, giving them food parcels, trying to buy their vote.

I think the people of Ward 7 have shown maturity because they are not so gullible as others would have thought. They took the food but did not forget the three-day [affair] down in their ward.

They did not forget the issue of the TVET College, which reminded them of the apartheid era when their leaders were once referred to as handful of protesters when they came out in their numbers. They also did not forget that they were called uneducated or illiterate.

What made things worse was the issue of the Transnet job opportunities; everybody knows about what happened [with regards] the closing date alteration. All in the interest of deceiving our people.

To our new ward councillor [PG Mavundla], I say people have shown confidence in you as it is a known fact that you’re a people’s person because you always put people first.

We know that even before your assumptions of your duties as a ward councillor.

A lot will definitely change in the council, in particular in positions held by dubious figures.

We also want to assure you of our support in everything that you’re going to do to restore the dignity of our people. We promise to elect you a ward committee that will not be nominal but fully functional in every aspect of our community.
