THE newly appointed headmistress of Wartburg Kirchdorf School (WKS), Lisa Misselhorn, considers leading her alma mater both an “honour and a privilege”, and is humbled by the parent’s support and trust.

Misselhorn is the first female principal of WKS, however, she is not new to the school.

Misselhorn was a prefect at WKS, having spent her full school career at the school, matriculating in 1987. After being advised by the school counsellor, Misselhorn pursued a career in teaching, specialising in home economics. After graduating, she assumed a teaching post at WKS, which she filled for nine years until she was promoted to the position of HOD of Academics and then Discipline, which she filled until 2018. In 2019, Misselhorn assumed the position of acting principal after outgoing principal G. Baxter retired last year.

Misselhorn said that facing a co-ed environment that ranges from Grade RRR to matric has afforded her the opportunity to provide a safe, secure and emotionally stable environment for her youngest learners, while striving to empower and motivate her older pupils, pushing them to achieve more than what they first thought themselves capable of.

Misselhorn received an enthusiastic response from the pupils and staff to her appointment. She defined a leader as being an individual who is capable of making others better as a result of their presence, and making an impact which will form part of their legacy.

Misselhorn’s goal, together with her teaching team and SGB, is to maintain and improve on the academic and sporting excellence for which WKS is already well-known, while balancing the demands of South Africa’s challenging educational environment. This will not be achieved on her own strength, but as an instrument of God, to fulfil His plan for the school, and that of each individual. — Supplied.
