IN January Umvoti Mayor Cllr T.C. Ngubane, made a commitment to Enhlalakahle residents regarding the cleaning up of the waste transfer station above Longhomes.

Residents had been complaining about the transfer station, which had become an assault on eyes and noses as well posing a huge risk to hygiene.

The community services department swung into action and the waste management unit and Khabokedi (Youth Jobs in Waste) components began a massive clean-up operation which lasted several weeks.

The technical services department assisted with gravelling and levelling the site. They are also in the process of renovating the staff change-rooms and installing electricity. Despite being hampered by adverse weather conditions the hard work paid off and the transfer station now has a new look.

Residents are urged to follow the direction of staff when dumping in order to avoid refuse being scattered across the site.

Complaints about illegal dumping can be directed to the Community Services Department on 033 413 9138 and after hours 911 Community for Law and Order on
033 417 2911.
