Water crisis still ongoing in Greytown

2019-05-29 06:01

RESIDENTS in town were left irate and thirsty when faced with dry taps on Saturday morning and several other days during the week.

Many of us are fortunate enough to have a water pump and systems still in place, but what about the rest of the community? Are they left to gaze wistfully at the ghosts of the community tanks that have all since disappeared? (at what monetary cost one wonders).

When questioned, the powers that be (after many, many calls) say that the reservoir is empty, but how?

Is there is a leak in the reservoir perhaps? Surely there are measures in place to send off warnings when levels reach critical levels? This is 2019 after all.

On that note, how is the reservoir being emptied? Rapid evaporation perhaps?

Greytown residents are extremely water wise and conserve every precious drop so it is certainly not due to irresponsible usage or wastage.

Washing oneself with cold rain water, although refreshing, is not ideal, especially on a crisp winter morning.

When we take into consideration the exorbitant rates we pay, and the fact that we pay for water even when there is none, surely we deserve better service and more clarity?
