Water update

2016-08-24 06:00

IN response to a request from the Greytown Gazette for an update on the Greytown water supply, Greytown water activist Brian Walker responded as follows:

“The Townlands emergency water intervention (phase 2) is now up and running, delivering 1.7 million litres per 24 hours, which allows the reticulation system to be opened from 5am to 9am each day.

“Without the implementation of this system, Greytown would have been completely dry at this stage. The Department of Water and Sanitation, contractors and their sub-contractors must be thanked for their diligent efforts, to get phase 2 completed in the nick of time.
“This has allowed phase 1 to be rested, and hopefully, recharged.

“Phase 2 needs to used with caution, so the community must ensure that water is still used sparingly.
“We are most grateful for the rain on Saturday night, but it is going to take a lot more to make a significant difference to Lake Merthley, which now stands just over 16% full.”

To date, according to Grant Gifford, Greytown recorded 33mm in August.
