DURING a recent visit to Mbube in the Matimatolo area, German Ph.D student Karen Lebek came across a number of innovative ideas designed by community members to save, store and collect precious water.

One of the most eye-catching systems was this down-pipe fashioned out of plastic milk bottles, a double whammy — water-wise and up-cycling at its best.

It shows what a little imagination and creativity can achieve.

Lebek, who lives in Germany, regularly travels to the area for her research and has a special interest in studying communities who have no access to the basic service of piped water but rely solely on water sources such as rivers, springs or rain water.

The Greytown lake level this morning (June 4, 2018) is 65,95%.
