We want clarity on the learner driver programme

2019-12-11 06:00

I WRITE this letter seeking clarity from the municipal spokesperson regarding the learner driving programme that was recently launched by the mayor and his councillor.

We had the first programme where the interested parties had to apply but we did not hear about this latest one.

With the first programme we heard that R1,2 million was allocated for [the programme] and the money was paid but the driving schools did not receive a cent of that.

We also heard that not even one youth was taught as the programme did not happen. Thanks to our honourable councillor P.G. Mavundla, who in his first day as a public representative revealed this disgraceful secret. It is clear that other councillors are complicit to the act as they had kept quiet about it, knowing that the programme did not happen but the money was paid.

Now we have a second learner driver programme and we don’t know where it got the funding because we never heard that it was budgeted for.

The question are, where did the money come from, and when was it resolved that this programme would take place? Who are the beneficiaries? How were they appointed?

The municipal spokesperson must also tell us why shacks are not demolished after the owners have left for their new houses.

We say this because we can see people are occupying the new houses, but the shacks are still standing, yet they said they were building those houses to get rid of the shacks. We heard that the shacks have received new occupants.
