WEMBLEY College congratulates Milla Herbst on achieving her junior lifesaving award in October. It was a tough exam to pass as it consisted of both a theoretical and first-aid section. She also had to do a practical exam and had to rescue a “patient” in the sea and do a very challenging sea swim as the beaches were all closed to the public due to high and dangerous sea conditions.
She now is a qualified junior lifeguard and will have to assist with duties and community services on our beaches.

From 23 to 27 November, the Form 4 class had their annual outreach week. This year we decided to assist the local organization, Letcee by revamping a few of their toy libraries in various local villages.
Paint and paint brushes were bought and 12 eager pupils and two teachers set off on their adventure. Four out of the five days were spent painting and gardening and one was used for toy making at the Letcee campus in Greytown. This was very rewarding for pupils and teachers as it made us appreciate the things we have. It is always a fulfilling experience giving back to the community.

Preschool Day will be on 9 December at 10.30am in the preschool block. The teachers and children have worked very hard and we can’t wait to see what they have in store for us.

Grade 1 pupils had a wonderful day in Pietermaritzburg visiting Butterflies for Africa. It must have been one of the hottest days, but despite the heat they received many compliments from the hosts for being well behaved, polite and obedient. They also impressed the guides with their knowledge of insects and had the opportunity to show off their recently acquired “insect vocabulary”.
Being such a hot day, the butterflies were very active in the butterfly house and landed on our uniforms, hands and heads. We also had a close-up look at iguanas and stick insects. Great fun was had by all running through the maze garden and exploring the different paths. One of the highlights was catching tadpoles in a stream.
We would like to thank Reverend Pieter Swanepoel and Michael Mzolo for safe transport there and back.

The Wembley College swimming pool will be closed from 15 December to the 10 January, 2016. This is due to the fact that we would like to give Mr Van der Merwe and his staff some time for maintenance that needs to be done. Your understanding in this matter is appreciated.

On Saturday 21 November, four Wembley pupils - Amy Francis, Shannon Meter, Nicola Herbst and Ludwig Herbst - competed in the Maritzburg Spring Challenge gala at Seal Club in Pietermaritzburg. All the swimmers did very well. Nicola won second place in the 100m individual medley. Ludwig won third place in the 100m individual medley and second place in the 25m butterfly.
