NOTE from Sue Bornman, Children’s Home Store manager:

Wembley College would like to thank the following parents who made themselves available for the 2016 PA. The chairlady will be Laetitia Marais and the members as follow - Elsie Fourie, Laverne Pieterse, Tanya Schneider, Hayden Chiazzari and Dieter Meyer. Thank you for the time you are prepared to put aside for Wembley College.

Form 1 class had the privilege of visiting the Golden Grow potato packaging plant at Seven Oakes. What an eye-opener for us all to see the different processes needed before you have a pocket of potatoes. All the different mechanised machines and all the labour involved in such a plant was amazing to see. Thank you to Mr Grant Goble who so ably explained the process to us and for giving us each a pocket of potatoes.

The news of Wembley’s bread tag collection has reached the eager ears of a tiny village in Tasmania.

Bridget, who works in the Franklin Post Office, has placed a bread tag tin in the office and the community has managed to collect six kilograms of tags which they have kindly donated to the Wembley project.

People are so eager to help that those who didn’t have any tags contributed towards the cost of postage and transportation.

When Bridget’s friend Annalie, came to visit her in Tasmania, she had to make space in her luggage to bring the bread tags back to South Africa. She met René in Port Elizabeth to hand over their contribution to take back to Greytown. René has arranged with Louise Hill to collect the bread tags from the school and to inform us how close we are to donating a wheelchair. This is the second time the Tasmanian community have sent such a generous donation. We are sincerely grateful for all their efforts.

On Saturday, 30 January, four HS girl tennis players represented Wembley College at the Smythe Trophy Inter-schools Tennis Tournament at Kershaw Park. Congratulations to all players for their excellent sportsmanship, etiquette on and off the court and their neat appearance.

Wembley 1 (Calista Muna and Ashleigh Mason) won four of their eight matches and ended second in their final group and 14th out of 24 teams. Wembley 2 (Robyn Steyn and Georgia Bown) did their best in all their eight matches and although there were several close matches, ended up fourth in their final group.

On Friday 29 January Wembley College hosted the annual inter-house gala. It was an exciting day of swimming with 17 records broken. Thank you to the staff for their hard work in making the day a success. The school would like to extend its gratitude to the PA and the board of governors for the new awning, which provided shade for pupils throughout the day, and the new starting blocks.
