EMMA Sadleir, a social media lawyer, joined us on Tuesday, 19 July in the Aloe hall and then spoke to the children from Grade 4 to Form 6 the following morning.
I thank the parents who made the effort to listen to this incredible speaker to hear the dangers surrounding various social media networking sites.
We would like to remind you about some things she mentioned.

• All pupils are liable for anything they post on any social media platform.
The school has the right to expel a child if anything they post goes against the school’s code of conduct, even if such behaviour takes place off the school’s property.

• All posts on social media are owned by the social media enterprises.

• Your son or daughter could lose their job because of something that was posted during their school years.

• Settings on phones can pin-point your child’s exact location at any given moment.

• Once anything is posted onto a social media site it stays on for life and can never be removed.

• Do not let people take pictures of you without your consent.

• When applying for a job the employer looks at the social media posts of the applicant.

These were just a few of the shocking truths that were mentioned. However, most importantly, children can be prosecuted.

Wembley College would like to welcome the following new pupils - Monique Jonker, Liam Dixon, Sonri Scholtz, Uttara Moodley, Kriya Moodley, Juwairiya Sayed and Amory Wilken. Welcome to the Wembley family.

Thank you to Mr and Mrs Pretorius for showing the Form 1 class around the Chubby Chicks operation. What an eye-opener it was for us to see a company’s line of work and all the different stages - from where the one-day-old chicks are housed right through to the various, completed chicken products.

Milla Herbst will be representing Marine Surf Lifesaving Club at the Rescue World Lifesaving Championships in the Netherlands in September.
Milla, one of the youngest members to have been chosen, will form part of a relay team comprising U18, U17 and U16 lifesavers all of whom have won many South African medals for the sport.
Milla will also be competing in two individual pool events and three stillwater relay events.
All the best to you, Milla.
