ON Friday 5 August the pre-school got ready for a day of excitement, as we had our own mini Olympics. The athletes started this off with a flag procession, showing the beautiful flags they had made with their parents.

From there we went to different stations where we started with sprints, followed by long jump, shot put and long distance running. The focus was on participation, sportsmanship and enjoyment.
The pre-schoolers surprised us with their talent and they each received a medal and ice lolly before leaving for their well-deserved mid-term break.

On 3 August all eligible South African voters, meaning if you are 18 years or older, made their mark in local government elections. What a privilege to be a part of something so important.
But what if you were not yet 18? What if you were only in Grade 1? Would you have to wait about 12 years before you could be part of the hype? Not at Wembley College - we in Grade 1 spent the morning learning about the process of voting, the rules and the importance of elections.
We created our special ID documents and registered to vote. Our teachers created an environment similar to that of the voting stations in town. We received our voting ballots and could vote for our favourite Greytown restaurant. We each cast our vote in secret and the votes were tallied - what fun.

On 29 July a number of our high-school girls attended the first round of U14-U19 soccer trials at Carter High School in Pietermaritzburg.
Congratulations to Phumelele Mtshali, who was selected as goalkeeper for the final round of trials on 6 August.

Sarah Barber attended the KZN Inland Girls’ U19 cricket trials held on 6 August. We are proud to announce that she has been invited to attend the KZN senior women’s and girls’ U19 training camp, taking place from 13-14 August at the Pietermaritzburg Oval.
