ON Tuesday, October 24 Project Rhino and Mascor delegates came to speak to the SP Phase about Rhino Poaching.

Prizes were given to the children who won certificates for their submissions for the Rhino Colouring competition that we entered last term.

Congratulations to Kim Chaning-Pearce, Carlien Lötter, Adisha Munessar, Tanja Thomas, Gina Adendorff and Kelly Cotterrell. Kelly and Gina have been selected to go on a Save the Rhino Kids camp later in the year. Kelly won the gold award for first prize too.

Our first relay gala of the season went well with our 20 swimmers participating in all the relays per age group. We were tied second with Clarendon after the winners Cowan House.

Special mention must be made of Qwyn Francis and Matt Cope, who are U8 and swam for the U9 age group and were a great asset to the team. Thank you Mrs Joma van Rooyen for assisting with transport.

Collective nouns, diminutives, long division, digital time, parts of speech and much more. These are just some of the concepts the Grade 3s learn about during the year.

Last week, they were introduced to similes. They even made up some of their own. Their teachers had a splendid time marking their personal similes and just had to share a few of them with you.

Karla Breytenbach: “As nice as buttercups.” Lerizé van Rooyen: “As tasty as pasta.” Chinwendu Eke: “As scary as a spider in my bed.” Parool Aheer: “As thin as a tooth-pick.” Lily Bown: “As pretty as a pony.”

At the Wembley Pre-school, we learn things in many different tasty ways. We learnt all about the “W” sound this week and thought of a wonderful way to sink our teeth into learning about this sound.

We ordered some Wacky Wednesday burgers from Steers in Greytown. We had a Wacky Wednesday at Wembley, with water. Thank you to Mr Dieter Gevers, who delivered our burgers and water at Wembley College. .
