SIX karatekas from Greytown will be representing Umvoti in Japan in 2020.

Umvoti Aids Centre and Umvoti Kyokushin Academy travelled to Port Elizabeth on July 3 to attend the 2019 South African Kyokushinkaikan Karate National Junior and Senior Championships. It is our absolute pleasure to announce that out of the nine participants, six will be representing SA in Japan next year at the International Championships.

We are so proud of the team’s performance — their hard work and dedication bore impressive fruits, with karatekas bringing home five gold and one bronze medal.

The champions include: Ntandoyenkosi Shweqe (Individual Kata — gold); Phiwokuhle Ngubane (Open division — gold); Andiswa Dlamini (Girls U13 Division — gold); Andile Dlamini (Boys U13 Division — gold); Lonathemba Mashazi (Girls U8 Division — gold); and Owami Luvuno (Girls U13 Division — bronze).

We are grateful for the great effort and collaborations between the parents, Umvoti Kyokushin Academy, and Umvoti Aids Centre in the preparations, fundraising and planning for this event.

The kindness and generosity of the Department of Sports and Recreation – KwaZulu Natal, Umvoti Fuel and Oil, Bawaz Furnishers, Min Cash Tyres, individual donations from the community and the prayers from the community for the journey are commendable and greatly appreciated. — Supplied.
