A TALL, slim, neat figure with a flash of blonde hair bowls a fast, hard ball to her opponent on the green cricket pitch at Wembley College.

The bails fall and her teammates jump in the air. Her name is Sarah Barber. She has done it again, taking another wicket. She is the only female cricketer in the Wembley U16 team.

Sarah is an extraordinary girl, who is making tracks in the KZN cricketing world. At age six, she felt that ball skills were boring, asking her teacher if she could play cricket with the boys instead. This is how her cricketing career began to become a lethal fast-bowler.

At the beginning of the year, Sarah attended a Pitch Vision Girls’ cricket camp in Pretoria at the CSA, centre of excellence.

One of the coaches, involved in women’s cricket, contacted the KZN Inland team requesting Sarah get a chance to try out for the team.

Sarah made it into the senior KZN ladies squad. She is the youngest player bowling third or fourth in the order. They now play provincial teams throughout the year.

Sarah is brave and fearless. She knows what she wants and is going to make it happen.

We are so proud of her achievements. Wembley College is a school that celebrates individuals. We strive to ensure that our pupils are allowed to achieve their gaols and aspirations.
