THE Department of Environmental Affairs work together with uMshwathi Municipality to ensure that youth are trained on different skills.

Speaker for the municipality, Nokuthula Mdunge, encouraged pupils who have graduated on waste management NQF 5 to make use of the skills they obtained from the programme.

Mdunge indicated that the municipality does not have the capacity to employ all youth who have obtained certain qualifications.

“It is the duty of all students to search jobs anywhere rather than expecting to be employed by municipality,” said Mdunge.

She further thanked the Department of Environmental Affairs and the Talent Emporium Academy for their commitment in making sure that the lives of uMshwathi youth are prioritised.

The emphasis of the speakers’ speech was on that pupils should use these certificates to better their lives, even if they want to study further.

Furthermore, uMshwathi Municipality has conducted a youth talent search where identified youth with skills in isicathamiya, poetry, and hip-hop were assisted on recording.

Simphiwe Zondi from ward 12; Thandokuhle Hadebe from ward 7; and Sphelele Hadebe from ward 7 all received their 100 CDs (per each artist) handed out by the uMshwathi Community Services Portfolio Committee.
