IT was an exciting and challenging weekend for Umvoti CMC pupils and teachers at this year’s informative Youth Language Festival at Indlovana School last Friday and Saturday.

Thirteen primary and four secondary schools contested various activities including prepared and impromptu speeches, drama, poetry and storytelling.
The theme for this year’s competition is, “Racism is the serious violation of humans rights”.

Main winners were Mountain Ernestina Combined and Hermannsburg Secondary taking home four and three first places respectively. They now will represent Umvoti in the district competition in June.

Mrs M. Mchunu from the Department of Education youth desk thanked World Vision for sponsoring the event with trophies and other incentives. Min Cash was also thanked for their support.

Mrs T.F. Mavundla from the Department of Arts and Culture thanked the former chairperson and the initiator of the programme Mr M. Mkhize for making sure that Youth Development programme is up and running in Umvoti CMC.

Certificates of appreciation were presented to Mr Mkhize and World Vision, who promised to help the programme more in the future.
