Zuma Marathon road closures

2018-04-25 06:00

THE road from Seven Oaks to Albert Falls dam turn-off will be closed on Sunday, April 29 from 5.30 am for the duration of the J.G. Zuma Marathon.

Motorists will have to use the alternate routes to Pietermairzburg as follows:

Take the R74 Greytown/Kranskop road; turn left at the Welgegund garage at
Mispah; turn left again on the gravel road at the Mispah shop (opposite Khulekani School) — this goes through to Dalton, Wartburg and Pietermaritzburg.

An alternate is to take the Mooi River road via Rietvlei to Howick and then on to
Pietermaritzburg.

This is the fourth J.G. Zuma Marathon to be run involving Umvoti as a base.

The race starts at Seven Oaks on Sunday at 6 am and ends 42.2 km further at Albert Falls Dam.

There is a half marathon starting at 6.30 am and 6.45 am for a 10 km fun run.

Shuttles will transport runners from
Albert Falls to Seven Oaks at 3.45 am and 4.30 am.

The marathon is a qualifier for the
Comrades Marathon which takes place in June. Cut-off time at the finish is 11.30 am.

The prizegiving follows at noon and former president Jacob Zuma is expected to be present.

Winners of the men's and women's races will each receive R50 000.
