THE Kloof and Highway SPCA is very excited to launch its very own spectacular wildlife calendar for the year 2016.

Aptly named “Wild and free”, this calendar captures wildlife in all their glory – in their natural environment and habitat - just as wild animals are intended to be.

Speaking to the Fever SPCA outreach officer Lisa Gadd said, “The keeping of wild animals in captivity is fundamentally cruel in that it denies an animal the freedom to express normal behaviour.

“Through promoting awareness that wild animals should be left in the wild, we aim to create an ethos that is opposed to the unnatural keeping of any wild animals in captivity, condemned to a miserable life for human entertainment and financial gain.

“The 2016 ‘Wild and free’ calendar is a celebration and a reminder to us all that wild animals choose freedom,” she said.

Gadd said that the calendar is a wall calendar and includes a slimline on the one side so all your important and special days can be marked off. The calendar comes individually packaged in its own box.

“Our beautiful Wild and free 2016 Calendar costs R150 and all proceeds from the sale of these striking calendars go towards the care of animals at the Kloof and Highway SPCA. We expect to take delivery of the calendars mid-November 2015 and for pre-orders please contact the marketing Department on 031 764 1212/3 or email marketing@kloofspca.co.za,” she added.

The Wild and Free calendar will also be on sale at supporting stores in the community as well as at most shopping centres during the festive period where one can also have a calendar wrapped – for that special gift. On request, calendars can be ordered and bought from the SPCA and they will gladly have these wrapped as Christmas gifts as well.

Each month on the calendar has been sponsored by twelve local companies who are supporters of the SPCA and the society are very grateful for their sponsorship which enables the sale of the calendar to be a donation of R150 to our SPCA.

The Kloof and Highway SPCA would like to thank well-known photographer Grant Atkinson for generously allowing them to use each of the stunning wildlife images that have been showcased in 2016 Wild and Free Calendar.

Grant Atkinson is a guide, wildlife photographer and nature enthusiast. Although he is based in Cape Town, South Africa, he spent twelve years guiding in Botswana. During that time he developed a deep knowledge, love and appreciation of that country’s wildlife. Having an in-depth knowledge of animal behaviour and being able to anticipate their next move is a huge advantage in helping Grant get that once-in-a-lifetime photograph.

The SPCA would also like to acknowledge Simon Maritz - Creative Director at Aspyre for, once again, donating his time to ensure that the layout and graphic design are of an exceptional quality.”
