Businessman killed in home invasion

2015-09-08 06:00

THE KZN MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu, has condemned the murder of Upper Highway farm owner and businessman, Krishna Govender, who was shot and killed during a robbery at his home on Thursday morning.

The full details of the incident remain a subject of police investigations however, police have confirmed that Govender was killed by armed robbers who were ransacking his home.

It is alleged that the men entered the Govender home and held his family at gunpoint. A scuffle apparently ensued between the gang and Govender and after shooting him the robbers fled.

Mchunu expressed anger, shock and deplored the murder, urging anyone who has any information that might lead to arrest of those responsible, to come forward.

“It is extremely saddening to learn that a husband and father of four, has been killed in such a terrible manner in front of the loved ones he was only trying to protect.

“The murder of Mr Govender, who has been described as a ‘people-loving’ person, is condemned in the strongest possible terms. I find it totally abhorrent, senseless and inhumane. We will follow this case until there are arrests and convictions.

“I am however, assured that members of the police are working around the clock to ensure that those who are responsible for this murder and attack are brought to justice as soon as possible,” said Mchunu.

He expressed his condolences to the family, colleagues and friends of Govender. - Supplied.
