FIVE people were injured, one critically so, after a taxi and a Jeep collided head-on along Old Main Road in Hillcrest on Saturday.

Paramedics and their rescue unit found some of the injured still trapped in the wreckage.

“While firemen and the Netcare rescue officer used the jaws of life to free the wounded from the twisted frame of the vehicle, paramedics worked tirelessly to stabilise them,” said Netcare 911’s Chris Botha.

After the patients were extricated and immobilised by the medics, they transported them to hospital.
