UPPER Highway sisters Kim and Bonnie Hayman have taken on many of life’s milestones together and today they own one of the largest dance studios in KwaZulu-Natal - the KZN Dance Centre.

The duo have three studios and four school venues in the greater Durban area with 10 motivated and qualified teachers and associate teachers on their teaching faculty.

Three of their students recently excelled with international dance accolades and the sisters jetted off to New York with seven of their dancers for a Dance Experience Tour.

Speaking to the Hillcrest Fever about their recent achievements and the dance studio the duo said that dance is in their blood. “Our mother introduced us to dance from the time we were born, and we never looked back,” said Bonnie.

“We want to take the youth off the streets and get them involved in a sport.”The school offers classes in modern, tap, ballet, hip-hop and zumba. “We aim to use our skills to pass on to those who are interested in learning,” said Kim. “Every two years we take selected pupils and teachers to experience dance in New York. We have our pupils compete in tournaments, which enables them to get a whole new meaning to and#039;Broadwayand#039;.”

They are also extremely proud of three of their pupils - Lisa Felix who has recently received gold with distinction for her final level 12 of the American Academy of Ballet performance awards and Keita Cronjé and Nikita Koumantarakis who were both awarded bursaries at the Durban Dance Foundation bursary awards in May.

Bonnie said that with the school they get the pupils involved in charity work and helping out those less fortunate. They don’t only focus on dance training, they teach pupils how to become better individuals.

They also urged the youth to get involved in the sport of dance.“If you have a passion for dance, music or sport, follow your dreams and give it 100 percent,” said Kim.“Hard-work, determination and perseverance will always pay off in the end.”
