THE Hillcrest Corner Shopping Centre officially embarks on their redevelopment makeover in an effort to provide a more relevant shopping experience for their shoppers.

Given the introduction of the much-needed regional shopping centre Watercrest Mall, it is natural that the Hillcrest Corner’s offering needs to be adjusted. To achieve this and to ensure that Hillcrest Corner remains relevant to the demands of the local community, it requires some reconfiguration.

While there will be some frustration for three months, the end result will, without a doubt, surpass local community expectations.

The redevelopment project will see the Checkers parking level close completely as the Centre is building a brand new parking deck which will provide 215 new parking bays. The parking deck will be closed as of 20 July and will remain closed until November 2015.

The Centre appeals to shoppers to utilise the Woolworths and basement parking levels during this time as there is ample parking. The Centre can be accessed through the following access points:

· Via the elevators on the Woolworths and basement levels

· Via the elevator by Dischem

· Via the escalator below Dulce

Change is always tough, however these plans have been implemented with a very real and committed desire for the Centre to remain current, relevant and deliver on their intended position as the convenient community centre of choice in the area.

On the upper level there are a number of stores which have been vacated to accommodate the reconfiguration. Carol Boyes has left to make way for the entrance off the new parking deck, allowing for easier access. Foschini and @Home have vacated to make way for the exciting and popular family brand - Baby City. Standard Bank will fill the Markhams, Travelex and Miladyand#039;s space, and the landlords are working on exciting plans to fill the Truworths andamp; Identity spaces.

The Centre is also very pleased to announce that the rumours are indeed true. The Centre will welcome the health and fitness giant, Virgin Active to their store mix with an anticipated opening date of September 2016. The 3,600m² gym will be constructed on the property adjacent to the Centre and this development project will run concurrently with the reconfiguration project, however it will not impact on the Centre property at all.

While the Centre has exciting plans to fill the old Incredible Connection store - the landlord has been hesitant to move forward due to this space being affected directly by the Virgin Active development project.

and#034;We understand that construction is an inconvenience. It means that for the next couple of months our shopping centre will be in a state of change. We want our customers to know that this redevelopment is inspired by them, to provide them with the new and improved shopping Centre that they deserve,and#034; said Centre manager Bev Wilson.

The Centre has been inundated with queries relating to the changes taking place, however due to waiting for various approvals, the Centre has been unable to share all the details.

Now that the necessary regulatory approvals are in place, the management of the Centre will be in a position to share a great deal more insight and keep the community updated.

The Centre continues to provide a valuable and convenient store mix ideal for convenient and weekly community needs and looks forward to the communityand#039;s ongoing support through this exciting transition
