LAND Rover Durban-Hillcrest Villagers RC were host to Northwood Crusaders in the opening round if the Castle Murray Cup Knockout Competition on Saturday afternoon at their home grounds at the Durban Shongweni Club.

The tournament pitches the KZNRU Premier Division against the top performing First Division Clubs.

In front of a capacity crowd, the match started at a fast pace with Villagers claiming and#034;first bloodand#034;.

Super 15 referee Marius Jonker caught Crusaders off-side at a ruck, to award Villagers a penalty, which was then despatched between the uprights by Mitch Coe.

Shortly afterwards, Villagersand#039; Center Stephan Bothma went over to score Villagers first and only try. From there on the game began to slide in favour of the visitors, with the halftime score at 17-8.

The second half soon saw Crusaders show why they are a top performing Premier Division Club, and demonstrate their superiority over the local First Division Club, with a final score of 48 - 8 Villagers Man Match went to Gerard Botha (Backs) and Wesley Volek (Forwards).
