Punch puts paid to robbers

AN Upper Highway resident’s punch sent a gang of armed robbers fleeing from his home.

Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said the robbers had entered the home in Maurice Nicholls Road at around 7pm on Thursday evening via a locked kitchen security gate which they had opened with a key.

“The resident was in the lounge with his wife when the balaclava-wearing gang burst in, held the couple up at gunpoint and assaulted them, demanding cash and jewellery.

“It is unclear how the robbers had managed to get hold of a key to the property,” he said.

“The robbers took the resident to the bedroom where they planned to tie him up, but when the resident was left alone with one of the gang members he managed to punch him and press the panic button next to the bed,” he said.

“The gang fled on foot. The resident immediately gave chase, but lost them outside in the dark.”

Jackson said an undisclosed sum of cash was reported stolen out of the resident’s wallet.

Pinetown SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
