Too much focus on quotas Too much focus on quotas

IT is public knowledge that CSA (Cricket South Africa) have taken the decision to increase the number of racial quotas at a domestic level without any form of consultation with the players themselves.

The recent initiative was initiated two weeks before the last contract window closed, which left teams stumped in an attempt to obtain the required number of players of colour.

With all respect to these players, how are we, as a nation, supposed to move forward on a cricketing front if the most deserving players in the country are not taking to the field on a weekly basis? Within the boundaries of this country lies an abundance of talent that is eager to don the green and gold yet the priorities of CSA appear to be centred around that of quotas.

Let pure talent be at the forefront of our success and not allow quotas to overshadow the beauty that is the game of cricket.

The talent of young black cricketers is certainly evident but the issue shouldn’t be forced merely to please those sitting behind a desk.
