THE fourth edition of the 3 Falls Trail Run took place on Women’s Day, 9 August. The 18,5km run started and finished at Forest View Primary. A total of 228 runners started the event and all but five managed to finish the tough course.

For the first time this year, the conservancy introduced a 6,5km fun walk and 27 walkers took part. Over 70 volunteers from Kloof Conservancy, Kranztkloof HOs, SANParks HRs, Hamnet KZN, Ezemvelo and Forest View Primary made sure the event ran like clockwork and feedback from the runners has been positive.

The men’s winner was Eric Ngubane, who recently represented SA at the world champs. Ngubane ran the course in a record time of 01:43:41. The ladies winner was Gina Treleaven in 02:23:48.

The event also included a team challenge between two teams from the two areas where Kloof Conservancy runs outreach projects. The Molweni Mamba’s beat the Kwa-Ximba Noguajas for the floating trophy.

The event raised R53 300 which will be allocated to convert the interpretative centre into a conference and wedding centre.

If you are a trail runner, consider running the Kwa-Ximba Trail Run on Sunday 25 October – this is a joint venture between the Kwa-Ximba Conservancy and the Kloof Conservancy to raise money for environmental projects in Kwa-Ximba
