GUNCHO Petrov’s (35) passion for meat and the traditions of his homeland Bulgaria have not only made him famous in the Upper Highway area, but also given him the title as one of the ‘best butchers in town’.

Petrov has a decade of experience in the food industry and was employed to head the meat department at Food Lover’s Hillcrest in August 2012.

“I was based in Hillcrest for a while and then was moved to Food Lover’s in Pinetown, however my customers in Hillcrest were not happy about this and after their demand I was brought back to Hillcrest,” he said.

For seven days a week Petrov presides over proceedings, joking with customers as he dispenses cuts of meat, advising on cooking methods and sharing recipes that customers are eager to try.

What makes Petrov a ‘cut above the rest’, is his passion for his job and the relationship he builds with his customer’s.

“I want the highest quality meat available for my customers. I never compromise on quality and it is my motto to give people only the best,” he said.

Petrov’s decade of experience means he can instantly tell if the meat is of exceptional quality.

"The most important thing, when someone comes to Food Lover’s Butchery, is that I give them a taste of happiness."

“We have a variety of products and special cut meats to suit everyone’s needs,” he said.

Petrov said that the Food Lover’s Hillcrest man size succulent T-bone steak is one of the best sellers.

“We also have a great range in our biltong bar and a variety of marinated meats ready to braai.”

“We guarantee you only the best.”

To experience the quality of Food Lover’s first hand, visit their Hillcrest branch from 8am – 6pm daily.
