A TEAM from the Hirsch’s Hillcrest branch recently visited the Ikhethelo Children’s Village in The Valley of 1000 Hills with cooked meals and supplies for the children and housemothers.

The meals were produced for Hirsch’s latest cook book for the demonstrators in their branches and will be on sale later this year.

The Ikhethelo Children’s Village is not a stereotypical orphanage, it tries to create a healthy home environment within each cottage and/or family, which itself is part of a vibrant, safe village community.

Each family unit consists of a housemother caring for a group of eight children. The house parents are the foundation on which each family is built. They are drawn from the same cultural group as the children and are a mother to them, not just an employee – they love and care for the children as if they were their own.
