PINETOWN artist Sibonelo Ngcobo, better known as “Mageja I 47”, rapper, songwriter and a music producer says being a musician is the best thing that’s ever happened to him.
Ngcobo, who was born in KwaNyuswa, said he has been in the music industry since 2007.
“Music has taught me a lot of things such as respect and discipline. Being a good musician requires one to, firstly, understand who they writing for and what message are they conveying. “You need to understand things that affect the community and address those issues through music.

Ngcobo had a downfall in 2009 when he mixed with a gang and was arrested.
“I went through a dark phase in my life where I got involved with people who were into drugs, which later got me into trouble and on the wrong side of  the law. I was arrested in 2009.
“However that did not stop me from chasing my dream of becoming a musician, in fact it taught me a lesson about life.
“While in prison I formed a musical group with one of my friends, Ngqondo.”

Seven years later Ngcobo has recorded an album which will be released soon.
“This album is my first project under Rieco Bird Media, titled Thoughts and Motions EP, it features productions from artists namely Dondo, Mzogologo, SK with Da Bang and Spot On. I have released my first single on the project titled Mama featuring Feleba SK, which is a single dedicated to mothers and the response to it has been good.

“I have completed 90% of my project Thoughts and Motions EP and I am hoping it will be complete by the end of the year.”
Rieco Bird Media spokesperson Sibusiso Nzama said Mageja’s performances are a must-see.
“His songs are a mixture of fusion hip-hop, poetry and R&B. The lyrics are sung and rapped in Zulu and English.”
