FINDING funding to study further in this struggling economy is not easy for many young South Africans, however with the backing from two inspiring Upper Highway businessmen it has become a little more easier.

Business owner at the 1000 Hills Chef School Trevor Maarschalk and Hillcrest KwikSpar owner Mike Egling said after they’ve given much thought to what they could do to assist pupils, they came up with an idea of making a craft beer and donating the profits as bursaries to deserving pupils to study at the 1000 Hills Chef School.

Maarschalk explained that it wasn’t much of a hassle because he runs a brewery and that’s where they are making the beer. “The beer is made at the school and it gets delivered to Spar to be sold to the community,” he said.

The two friends said they named the crafted beer 36 on Main because it is proudly brewed in the community of Hillcrest.

“There are many young people who will like to be part of the school but due to coming from disadvantaged backgrounds they can’t afford to go there and that’s why we made this craft beer to try and help them,” explained Egling.

In conclusion the duo asked the community to support their initiative because it will benefit the young people who want to further their studies at the school.
