AT Epworth High School for Girls in Pietermaritzburg, we educate and inspire girls from Grade 8 to Grade 12 to reach their full potential so they can take their place in an ever-changing world as confident, resilient and ethical individuals.

Epworth is a vibrant, tight-knit, Christian community of 370 girls (day scholars and boarders) and is proud of its 118-year commitment to educational excellence. It is set in spacious yet secure 15-hectare grounds with an enviable range of facilities.

Academics play a central role at Epworth. Our academic programme comprises an extensive range of subjects, accommodating pupils with wide-ranging abilities and interests. We consistently receive 100% pass rate in the National Independent Examination Board (IEB) Senior Certificate Examinations. We exceed the national IEB percentage for entrance into university and every year we celebrate girls who achieve subjects in the top one percent of IEB pupils.

In addition to its outstanding academic record, Epworth is highly regarded for its sports and cultural programmes. Success on the sports field is borne out by the large number of girls who annually represent South Africa or are top SA-ranked sportswomen in their respective sports. Culturally, we offer abundant opportunities in music, art, the performing arts (dance and drama) and debating.
Music is one of the major growth areas in the school and we currently boast two choirs, a jazz band, a string ensemble, marimba bands and a worship team.

Epworth offers a home away from home for weekly and termly boarders. Boarding houses feature comfortable, secure single or double rooms, spacious bathroom facilities and areas for relaxation. Friendly and caring boarding staff ensure all boarders’ physical, emotional and social needs are met. - Supplied
