EIGHT-year-old Amy Corden, a pupil from Waterfall Preparatory, could not stand knowing that there are children in the community that do not have necessities to keep them warm this winter, so she took it upon herself to start a Winter Campaign — The Heart for Hope.

“It is so cold this winter, and I felt bad for the children out there who don’t have blankets, a home and all the stuff that we have to keep us warm,” said Amy.

She said that it got her very upset and she told her mom that she wants to help those children.

“I needed to do something about it, so I told my teacher who helped me set up a meeting with Taylor and Kayla from iThemba, a charity group from school.

“I told them that I wanted to go visit the children from different homes and show them that they are also loved and cared for.

“What I’m tying to do is make Necessity Bags (NB) which will contain blankets, beanies, gloves and jerseys for each child,” she said.

Amy appealed to the public to donate items she can use to fill the bags.

“If the people have things like scarvess, gloves, blankets, socks and beanies that they no longer use, they can give them to us and we will distribute them to the children in different homes on Mandela Day, 18 July,” said the eight year old.

She said those who might be willing to donate can contact her mother, Kerry Corden, at 084 228 8800.
