UPPER Highway model, Naledi Mshengu said that her days have been exciting and busy from photo shoots to attending events since being crowned Miss uShaka Marine World.

Mshengu also recently graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in motion picture medium: TV Production at AFDA. Mshegu said: “My duties are quite exciting. I’ve been doing photo shoots for uShaka that required me to try all the activities that uShaka provides like shark-diving, snorkelling, ocean walker, I even got to meet and kiss a dolphin. Like these are things I don’t think I would have ever done, but I’m glad I got to do it. It was the greatest experience. I also have to attend events that happen at uShaka to participate and interact with people.”

Mshengu said that she was a shy child while growing up, however, going to high school made her come out of her shell. “After going to high school I just gloomed and became the energetic, talkative person I am. That’s when I saw my love in arts, I used to be in school plays and musicals”. Her love for modelling began at a tender age but she started focusing on it last year.

“My mom used to take me to small modelling competitions in the neighbourhood, it wasn’t anything big and I didn’t participate in much of it. Its only when I decided to enter Miss uShaka Marine World. Honestly, I was just trying it out to see how far I’ll go, and to my surprise I was crowned Queen. It’s really been an exciting, fun experience. The staff at uShaka make sure I get the best treatment when I’m there.”

Mshengu said that the biggest challenges as a model is keeping healthy and fit at all times. “It is a challenge to stay healthy and trying to keep your body in a right state. Especially, for a person who loves food like me. However, I gym regularly just to maintain the way I look.”

Besides being Miss uShaka Marine World Mshengu also enjoys the gym. “I love gym, it’s just so relaxing and refreshing. So any free time I have I like going to gym and running. If talking is a hobby, then that is my other hobby, I talk a lot and I love communicating.”

Mshengu advised the youth and said: “It’s very important to always be yourself and be happy with yourself and who you are. Once you start comparing yourself or trying to be someone else, you generally will never be happy because you can’t be anyone but you. As the youth, we shouldn’t be afraid to step out our comfort zone, you never know how far you go until you try something. Let’s be a youth that’s full of positivity and willing to work hard and go out there and showcase our talent.”
