IN remembrance of all the fallen soldiers in blue uniforms, Shane Cox and his friend Pierre Venter-Maher took upon the Kloof and Highway SPCA Dog Box Challenge, where they spent 24 hours in a dog box at Watercrest Mall, from Friday noon until Saturday.

Cox said that he started this initiative for his late sister who was a Metro Police officer and got shot whilst on duty.

“This is in remembrance of Shane’s late sister who passed away, she was a Metro Police dog handler and she got shot whilst on duty. She then suffered for 10 years from her injuries before passing away,” said Pierre.

Pierre further explained why he joined his friend on the quest of spending 24 hours in a dog box: “I was also in a dog unit, so we are kind of like remembering all the fallen soldiers in blue uniforms and the dogs too.”

Cox said that this is his third year and first for his friend but they both vouched that they will keep on doing this until it has the much needed impact on the public.

“This year we are going beyond as will we do 48 hours so that we will reach the target of
R10 000 and until it impacts on many people as possible, maybe one day they’ll join us,” said Cox.

The duo will be in Kloof Village Mall from Friday noon until Saturday where they will serve another 24 hours to try and reach their target of R10 000 to be bailed out from the dog box.
