ALL female band Heels over Heads will be celebrating a decade together this month and are urging other females in the community to always follow their dreams.

Made up of five ladies, Thulile Zama, Nobuhle Ashanti, Tracey Johannes, Rebekah Doty and Arianna Carini, the band says they were brought together by their collective love of music.

Speaking on the “forces” that brought them together, Thulile Zama said: “Our heads and hearts were in it and we realized that we have what it takes to pursue our passion.

“We worked hard, consistently, and genuinely enjoy working together.”

Even though they enjoy working together, and wanted to make it in the music industry, the ladies said there were some hardships that they have had to overcome over the years.

Zama said losing members whom they started with was one of the major obstacles they had. However, she said they have had other amazingly talented female musicians cross their path and they still maintain a healthy working relationship and friendship with their “national” band line up.

Zama also confessed that it is difficult for bands to stay together, and it is worse if they do not record as often as they would like to because of personnel change challenges.

“Sometimes it means taking a few steps back to build the existing repertoire with a new person, who slows down the process of finalizing new compositions, and it becomes hard for the whole band,” she said

She also said that, although they may have had difficult times along the way, they are happy with what they have achieved in the long run of their 10 years together.

“Winning the Yamaha Young Artist of the Year in 2010, and having our debut album Could it be nominated for the Sama awards, are some of the many things we are proud to have achieved,” said Zama.

In commemoration of the decade they’ve been together, Heels over Heads are holding the Heels over Heads 10-year anniversary tour, which Zama says has been a blast so far, with the second half of the tour set to head to Cape Town in July

Zama encouraged other ladies to always follow their dreams and never let obstacles get in their way of success.
