LIKE any other 12-year-old boy Chaise Botha enjoys the outdoors, yet what sets this little man apart from the rest, is that he will be using his passion for nature to make a difference to many pupils’ lives at his school.

The Grade 7 pupil will be hiking the Tankwa Camino Trail from Calvinia to Ceres in the Western Cape (with his Dad and 14-year-old sister, currently in Grade 9 at PMB Girls High) at the beginning of May. In total, he will be covering 256kms over 10 days in some of the most beautiful and rugged terrain that the Karoo has to offer.
Chaise's mom Nicole said that her son wanted to use this opportunity to give back to the community.

“We approached ‘The HPS (Hillcrest Primary School) Kids Community’ who assists the school's struggling families and realised that funds are desperately needed for school excursions,” said Nicole.
“Once a year each senior primary grade heads off for a team building exercise and fun excursion for a night or two, and many of our kids stay behind simply because their parents are taking financial strain.”
Nicole said that they are well aware that most individual households are stretched financially as everyone tries and make ends meet each month, and so their desire is that businesses (small, medium, large, local and international) get behind Chaise to make a difference to his peers.
“Contributions can take place in two ways: sponsoring R1 or more per km (a total of 256kms being covered), or by making a once off donation,” she said.
“Almost all businesses have R256 to spare. This is a fantastic opportunity for our school and wider community to make a difference right here in our back garden.”

Chaise said that he is excited to be assisting his fellow pupils in this way and urged people to come on board and support this project.
