EAST Coast Radio Urban host, Bongani Mtolo, took over the airwaves between 3pm and 6pm, from Monday 31 July amd Hillcrest Fever reporter, KALISHA NAICKER, spoke to him about life behind the mic.

KN: How and why did you get into radio?

BM: I sent a terrible demo to my programming manager Zane and I guess he saw the potential in me and decided to give me a chance. It’s been my dream since I was young.

KN: Describe your first radio gig.

BM: Horrible, I’m surprised they let me come back the next day.

KN: What did you want to be growing up?

BM: I was never a doctor or lawyer kind of child. I always knew I wanted to be in entertainment.

KN: Who are your role models?

BM: I know it's clichéd, but my parents are my role models. I’m always amazed at how they managed to provide for us and make us feel special, even though they didn’t have a lot.

KN: One word to describe yourself.

BM: Unpredictable

KN: What is one thing that people do not know about you?

BM: I cry every time I watch The Pursuit of Happyness.

KN: What is your message to aspiring radio presenters?

BM: You need to work on your craft and be consistent, you are only as good as your last show.
