IT was a day of fun and merriment as World Aids Day was commemorated with a Christmas Market at the Hillcrest Aids Centre Trust on Saturday 28 November.

There were stalls galore selling everything from delicious coffee to second-hand books and goods to hand-crafted items.
There was a lively tea garden, a jumping castle for the children and rocking live music from Abangwele male acappella group, the local band Parable Fifteen and up-and-coming artist, Robz Millar.

The raffle winner for a two-day safari was Daniella Smith. Kevin Atkinson won the R1000 voucher for HEADMASTER's Hair Salon, Laurel Oettle won the Legacy Trilogy of books by Melissa Delport, Angus Thomson won the R500 voucher for Old Town Italy, C. Cuthbertson won the manicure and pedicure at Bella Day Spa, Sue De Andrade won a R350 voucher for HEADMASTER's Hair Salon, Ayanda Luthuli won a voucher for Talloula in Bothas Hill, Verna Walker won a voucher for Cosa Nostra Family Restaurant while Al Leslie and Tess Thomson each won an Oscars Cafe voucher.

“Our Christmas market was a great way to mark World Aids Day – celebrating income opportunities for people impacted by HIV/Aids and showcasing the huge talents harboured by local crafters.
Many visitors also did a HIV test, increasing the number of people in KZN who now know their HIV status and can take steps to either protect themselves from future infection, or to get onto ARVs in order to live a long and healthy life with HIV,” said Olivia Myeza, CEO of HACT.

“A big thank you goes out to everyone who helped make the day a huge success: Richdens SuperSPAR, Checkers Watercrest, Marshall Music, RedCoughE, Parable Fifteen, Robz Millar, KZN Wedding and Functions, the raffle prize donors, the volunteers, the stall holders and of course you, the supporters!”
