Community mourns loss of ER24 hero

THE Upper Highway community is mourning the loss of ER24 paramedic Vicky Govender.

Govender succumbed to his injuries after he was involved in a serious accident during the storms which gripped Durban last Tuesday.

According to ER24’s Derrick Banks, “Vicky Govender, from ER24 Highway [KZN], and his partner, Tracy Bederson, was involved in a serious collision on Tuesday during the Durban storms when they placed their lives on the line to save others. “Sadly, Govender succumbed to his injuries on Friday. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and loved ones. Govender was passionate about helping others and was a true hero­ of our team.”

Steven King of SA Community Crime Watch offered condolences to Govender’s family and friends: “Govender was always ready to assist those in need. He will be greatly missed.”

Hillcrest resident N. Cele also offered his condolences. “May this great man’s soul rest in peace. We will never forget his hard work and dedication.”
