DURING March and April the Robinhood Foundation will be visiting six old age homes in the greater Durban area and handing out mugs filled with Easter eggs to the residents. According to co-ordinator, Kim Griffith-Jones, a number of these homes don’t have sufficient mugs to go around and many of them are chipped, worn or cracked. “One of our volunteers and committee members, Robyn Keulder, was concerned about the lack and state of the mugs and as a result the ‘Mugs and Mallows’ campaign was conceived,’’ explains Kim. “We are urging individuals and corporates to donate new or pre-loved ceramic, plastic or tin mugs, filled with marshmallow Easter eggs, for us to hand out as a special treat to the elderly during our visits.’’

“At Compass we have a culture of caring and so far this year our staff, in their personal capacity, have supported the Gift of the Givers’ WaterShare project, the Talk Sign campaign and now the Robinhood Foundation’s ‘Mugs and Mallows’ initiative,’’ comments Ian Du Randt, MD of Compass Medical Waste Services. “This support and generosity is over and above the time and skills that they allocate to our corporate social responsibility projects, which include the calendar campaigns for C.R.O.W and Cats of Durban and the Container Ministry ‘Thanksgiving’ initiative run by Grace Family Church which blesses over 150 ministries throughout the province.’’

For more information on how to get involved in the Robinhood Foundation’s Mugs and Mellows project please contact Kim on 076 612 9060 or emailrobinhoodfund@telkomsa.net. “Special occasions, like Easter, are often the loneliest time for residents of old age homes and so the public are welcome to join us on the visits to have a cup of tea and spend some time chatting to the elderly – it will make their day,’’ concludes Kim.
