KLOOF artist Grifford Duminy has taken his aim to beautify the community a step further with his mural of a leopard on the outside wall of the drama room at Kloof High School.

Janet Broody, Kloof High marketer, said the leopard is on the crest of the school badge and represents the link with Kloof since this animal is found in Kloof gorges.
“It is also the school’s mascot. The painting is magnificent - it overlooks the school’s top playing fields and can be seen from Emolweni Road,” she said.

Speaking to the Fever about his art and how he will be beautifying the Upper Highway area, Duminy said he always enjoyed art classes in school, but was never very good at it.

“I would always get the average mark and I was okay with that. I had fun and that was what mattered,” he said. “I only became interested in art when I was about 15 - in high school. It all started when my friends and I got into the hip-hop-graffiti culture. I have never been very interested in the illegal, tagging side of graffiti.
“I see it as quite counterproductive and anger generating, although I respect it and those who do it for many reasons - feeling a true sense of freedom, is one of those reasons.”
