CROW warmly welcomes its new junior clinic nurse, Tayla Hawkins.

Driven by her passion for animals, Tayla strives to find unique and non-invasive ways of enriching the lives of wild animals.

The 24-year-old, completed her studies as a Nature Conservationist at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NNMU) in 2013. Her love for animals is what motivated her to pursue a career in wildlife and environmental conservation.

In her spare time, she enjoys photography, doing special effects make-up, hiking and spending time outdoors. During her studies, some of her main focuses were on ecology, plant studies and the law of Nature Conservation. At Crow Hawkins hopes to broaden her knowledge of animal health, with a focus on orthopaedics.

“I was blown away by the immediate acceptance I was greeted with from the staff at Crow. The team here has a great ability to share and expand on their knowledge. I am excited to be a part of this dynamic team,” she said.

Hawkins’ favourite animal is a Nigerian Dwarf Goat as they are always such happy animals. Her favourite animals to work with are African Cats and Primates because they are such beautiful and intelligent animals that are currently under threat due to dwindling numbers in the wild.

“One of the scariest experiences in my life was being chased by numerous lions while working on a game reserve. One lioness even tried to jump onto the roof of my vehicle, right then, the engine cut out. Fortunately for me, I managed to escape without injury,” said Hawkins.

She is looking forward to becoming a part of the Crow family while broadening her knowledge about wildlife rehabilitation. - Supplied.
