THE Dance Studio was first opened in Knysna in 2007 where Celeste Milsom shared her love for dance with the community.

She then relocated to Hillcrest in 2013 and started teaching at the various different schools in the area. Speaking to the Fever Milsom said, the introduction of a very diverse dance class to the children has been stimulating and exciting to see develop.

“Bringing salsa dancing to the adult community has also brought a great amount of joy to the adults in my classes. Ladies who attend my classes have discovered Latin American dancing on a high level without the use of dancing partners and everybody has enjoyed the opportunity to shine on the dance floor at our annual show Kaleidoscope 2015,” she said.

Milsom added that she offers classes to all ages from six years and older. “The students attending my youth classes learn 12 different styles of dance which are included in their class structures. All the students learn according to a syllabus and participate in exams and competitions when they are ready and confident.

“We teach hip hop, bhangra, slow style, energy, cha cha, samba, paso doble, jive, meringue, salsa, spanish, ballet, jazz and contemporary.”

Milsom said that her classes are diverse and the results at the end of the day are fantastic when the overall development of the individual student can be seen.

“We recently held our KZN Championships in Hillcrest and two of our top dancers qualified to compete at our Solo Dance Latin and Energy South African Dancing competition. Both Kristy Heesen and Kuhle Saunders took first place in their own age categories and Kristy Heesen took the KZN title home.”

When speaking about the adult social dancing Milsom said that she offers salsa dancing classes for adults once a week and hold regular dance socials at Stretta café and Station Masters.

“This is open to single folks and married couples who are looking for tuition and places to go dancing. We have group classes for beginners and Intermediate levels and I also offer private lessons. These classes include ballroom and Latin dancing at any level you choose whether it be social or competitive,” she added.
