OF the 100 contestants from South Africa who entered the International Talent Scout Competition for Kim Myers in Johannesburg at Silver Star Casino last year, only five pupils pulled through.

These five talented dancers were from the KZN Dance Centre, and will be jetting off to Orlando in the U.S. to participate in the Applause Rising Talent Showcase Convention in July.

Bonnie de Beer, who runs the KZN Dance Centre, said the pupils absolutely loved meeting Myers. “She is a lively, fun, woman of God and is so inspiring, also motivating. She encouraged the kids to work hard and reach for their dreams,” she said.

She said the entertainment industry is an extremely competitive one and these young artists have to have the talent, passion and drive.

“They should always be ready to put in the hours of hard work to keep pushing ahead, if they want to succeed,” said De Beer.

“By the time they leave, they would have attended two boot camps, ran by Elsubie Verlinden and her team from Just You Model and Artist Management. At these boot camps they work on perfecting their skills in the various genres of modelling, dancing, acting and singing,”

She added that the pupils are looking forward to performing in the U.S. for such influential people. “They will be music record label representatives, producers and agents, which will give them an opportunity to be seen by some of the best in the industry and to take their performing skills to the next level,” said De Beer.

She hops that this performance will open doors of opportunity for her pupils, especially with their hopes of international study and starting a career in entertainment.

“As for me and my sister Kim, as teachers, we are very proud to be travelling on this exciting journey with our pupils,” she said.
