THE Keep Hillcrest Beautiful Association celebrates its 10th birthday this year and is proud of the milestone.

The association was established as a non-profit organisation in 2006 with registration number NPO 055-202.

The aims and objectives are threefold - recycle, reduce litter, beautify.

The 10 volunteers on the committee work hard to ensure they fulfill their mandate.

According to chairperson Marge Mitchell, the association employs five previously disadvantaged people to do the heavy work as the committee consists of elderly volunteers, the oldest being 88, but she is the brightest spark.

“We have had overwhelming support for our appeal for plants for Inanda Road centre island verge in 2015, for which we are grateful and we thank the 100 members who contribute R30 per annum and our five sponsors who grant us a monthly amount,” she said.

However, to fulfill their goal set out for 2016 the association is in need of financial support.

“We are making an appeal for further sponsors or members. Our aim is to remain sustainable, and we are reliant on the public and businesses to support us as we receive no funding from any quarter,” said Mitchell.

“Our financial documents are open to scrutiny at the end of each financial year, and finances are audited. All monies received are used to further our aims and objectives.”

If you are inspired to contribute to keeping the area litter- free and beautiful, contact the treasurer, Jean Jooste on 082 895 0540.

Alternatively one may deposit into the bank account of Keep Hillcrest Beautiful Association at Standard bank, Hillcrest, with account number 25 661 876 3.
