MASSES of boxes and a couch were dumped at the recycling centre in Hillcrest last week.

The Keep Hillcrest Beautiful Association reported the matter to the municipality and the Metro Police.

According to chairperson of the association Marge Mitchell, they have CCTV footage of the people who dumped the boxes. She said that they are frustrated and disappointed as they have issued numerous warnings in the media about dumping at the recycling centre yet people continue to do it.

“This is a very sensitive matter. There are many signs stating that the recycling centre is not a dump. So this act by this young couple is pure vandalism,” she said. Mitchell said the couple’s registration number has been captured and has been reported to the legal authorities. She said that the Association now has to pay for the removal of the dumped items and as an NPO, it is a waste of its money.

She urged people not to dump at the recycling centre.
