eThekwini says K9s are well fed

POLICE dogs used by the eThekwini Metro Police are well looked after and there is no shortage of food or essential grooming items, the city said last week.

eThekwini Metro spokesperson Tozi Mthethwa said last week she wished to assure the public that “there is adequate supply of dog food”.

“Further, items such as shampoo, check chains, leashes, tackle suits, dog brushes and tracking leads are in stock.”

The statement follows News24 reports that the Dog Unit had been crippled by a shortage of puppy food and shampoo and mounting veterinary bills.

Last Tuesday, management turned away a R15 000 donation of food, medical supplies and toys for the dogs. — News24
